Working with credit card companies - the good, bad... A few months ago we knew we were headed into "negative" territory on our bills. A perfect storm of events were happening and we could see what was going to happen.

Allowances, complications, compensating for chores...... It was with surprise and well, a bit of disgust that I was recently reading a plethora of comments on a financial forum I participate in about this very subject.

I was trying to be too strict, too rigid in our budget. I desperately want the debt GONE. However, I’ve been told that I also have to LIVE while we are eliminating it!
Therefore, we now have a “blow” category in our budget. Mind you, it’s $20 total (basically a movie or a take n’bake pizza… however, it’s still a blow category.
This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy. ~Douglas Adams
This is just funny and at times appropriate… in the goal to live as inexpensively as possible in order to not waste resources, to get out of debt and to save money for the future, this video is a hilarious reminder that pride is found in all situations!
Let’s see - we’ve been working on selling things… we’ve been working on returning things we never used, followup on money we should have but don’t, etc.
We’ve also been doing freecycle and letting friends and family know about things we are looking for… this has resulted in some pretty cool surprises, more later on that.

It’s a journey that begins with a conscious decision, a first step: deciding that being debt free is a top priority, that having debt is no longer an option.I equate it to the same thoughts as a marriage ending in divorce: if you enter a marriage without first deciding that no matter what, divorce is not an option, you will end up in divorce. So, from this point on, no matter what, debt is not an option.
I’ve decided to share our process, albeit anonymously for now. There will be ups and downs, achievements and failures. It’s called life and we live it on a daily basis. It’s also likely that most of our life will spill into this process, choices we make, investments in our relationships, etc.I hope to share the thought process going on in my head, even the politically incorrect and judgmental thoughts, you know the ones that flash through your head that you wouldn’t really share out loud, yes those.
